What is a cookie?
Today, cookies are used by almost all websites. In many cases, cookies may be necessary to provide a service on websites.
A cookie is a small text file which is stored on the user’s IT equipment (PC, tablet, smartphone) to the effect that the equipment is recognisable. Cookies may for instance be used for the purpose of preparing statistics of the users’ website use and for optimisation of website contents. A cookie is a passive file which cannot collect information on the user’s computer, spread computer virus or other harmful programmes. Some cookies are placed by parties (so-called third parties) other than the one in the address line (the URL) in the browser. The contents of such cookies may be of a general nature, but they may also be for example analytical tools or embedded commentaries. This means that cookies are stored from parties other than the one owning the website.
Some cookies are only stored on your IT equipment as long as you have your browser open (session cookies). Other cookies are stored on your IT equipment for a longer period of time (persistent cookies). When you re-visit a website, the cookie is typically renewed.

Persistent cookies the purpose of which is to collect information on the size of the Internet connection which is used to play videos from YouTube. Another purpose is to store information on the user’s preferences when the user watches embedded videos. Such cookies are stored for 30 minutes, eight months and ten years, respectively.

How to delete or avoid cookies depends on your browser.

Why do we inform about cookies?
